Movie Clips Assignments
These clips were chosen simply because of their educational purpose. Both videos show their ability to teach and learn, providing each other the necessities to improve and progress. I found that these videos both have very good points that make learning more understandable as the teacher in the second video. Making sure everything is organized and well-prepared for the students, as well as looking over the solution to a question rather than going through the problem and ensuring that without any confusion. One of the instructors in the video quotes, " I can bring it to you, but I can't give it to you. You have to reach for it." I found that his saying really makes sense in a classroom but also within our everyday life, For one person to actually achieve their dream(s) or wants, they have to work for it. If they actually put in the effort and time, I'm sure they can attain what they wanted to strive for.
In the first video with the trumpet player, I absolutely loved the fact that he started with teaching the girl how to hold the trumpet first rather than letting her start playing the instrument. Many of us loves to just to play and jump to conclusion, regardless of what instrument or just doing anything in general. We don't understand the importance of moving step by step in learning new instruments and essential skills. So besides holding the trumpet and buzzing through the mouthpiece, he took out the tuning slide and asked her to blow. That really fascinated me because many teachers are unaware of that strategy, especially when it could really enhance one with getting enough air through the instrument. We should all think about the basic fundamentals of learning before we skip right to the final product that may or many not be perfect... which is usually not.
The contexts in these two videos are based on results on what the teacher teaches. Whether they actually taught the students something or not, because at the end of the day it is the teacher's job to make sure that everyone in class or their students understand everything that was educated that day. The students(s) are also responsible to get caught up with work and making sure that they are paying attention to everything, ensuring that they are asking questions when they are unsure about a topic of problem. If both the student(s) and instructor cooperates and each of them realizes their responsibilities under the name, that itself should complete the final product of both their goals in the teaching field and as students.
These clips do offer exceptional good teaching because they both are assertive teachers, ensuring that their student(s) and effective and strives to learn more. For the first video the boy made sure that the girl took little steps before she was even allowed to play. For the first video the boy made sure that the girl took little steps before she was even allowed to play. For the second video, the teachers made sure that the kids were all listening and that they all understand what they've learned. Video Assignment
Lesson Plan for Group Compositions
I want the class to watch this video and incorporate their own compositional ideas for what they think the music is...
Step I : Settle down the class in an orderly fashion to quiet down and get seated if not already
Step II : Let them watch the video while muted so they only focus on the animation and what's going on
Step III : Ask them what they thought of the video, then add in what they the soundtrack should be
Step IV : Tell them their assignment - The students are to brainstorm what kind of instruments or musical tool they can use to compose a background soundtrack for this video. Perhaps they can use think of the music for the mouse itself or the whole video.
Step V : Play the video again muted and allow them to focus and try to take-in the video and the action of the mouse to get a sense of what is expected of them
Step VI : Now that they know what their assignment is, I will now tell to form groups of four-five (Depending on the size of the classroom).and give them around half the class to think of what they're going to do
Step VII : After 30 minutes exactly, tell them to settle and sit back down with their group members and ask if any volunteers will like to go first, if not then I will choose. Maybe record it.
Step VIII : After they have all performed, I will ask a very general question: How did you think of using this specific instrument or how did you actually plan everything out.
Step IX : I then will let them watch the video again with the music and let them listen to how this person incorporated the music into this animation
Step X : Last I will ask them what they thought of how the music was incorporated into the animation and what they could've changed or add into their own composition
This activity will allow students to use their imagination and creativity to help them strengthen their knowledge on composition and improvisation.
